Occupation Notes

Newly Qualified MMO – this means that you have the experience needed to become a MMO and have recently acquired the training (MMO training, if required, safety training and medicals) you need to work as an Industry MMO. You have not yet worked as a MMO in a mitigation role.

Newly Qualified PAM Operator – this means that you have the experience needed to become a PAM Operator and have recently acquired the training (PAM training, if required, safety training and medicals) you need to work as an Industry PAM Operator. You have not yet worked as a PAM Operator in a mitigation role.

MMO – this means that you have already worked as a MMO but don't as yet qualify for full membership You will have the experience needed to become a MMO as well as MMO training, if required, safety training and medicals that you need to work as an Industry MMO.

PAM Operator – this means that you have already worked as a PAM operator but don't as yet qualify for full membership (at least 20 weeks of marine mammal observation experience plus 2 qualifying PAM jobs). You will have the experience needed to become a PAM operator as well as MMO/PAM training, if required, safety training and medicals that you need to work as an Industry PAM Operator.

Renewables – this means that you work for a company specialising in any renewable type of energy such as wind farms, tidal turbines or wave power.

Oil or Gas – this means that you work for a company specialising in Oil and Gas Activities.

Construction – this means that you work for a company whose operations cover construction, drilling, dredging etc.

Hydrographic Surveying - this means that you work in the field of surveying for navigation and bathymetry profiling. If your activity is related to oil and gas please select this category instead.

Environmental Consultancy – this means that you work for a company who offer environmental consultancy for industry operations ie can cover a wide range of types. This excludes those who work as freelance MMOs or PAM operators.

Student – this means that you are engaged in academic studies at a school, college or university.

Academic – This means that you are employed at an academic institution or your work is related affiliated to an Academic institution

Regulators – this means you work for a government body whose remit is to regulate offshore industry operations.

Researcher – this means you are conducting research as your occupation but not through an Academic institution.

Environmental Charity – this means you work for or are affiliated to an environmental charity.

Naturalist Guide – this means that you work in tourism as a naturalist guide for a private company or charity.

Fisheries – this means you work in fisheries whether this be as a fisherman or as a fisheries observer.

Other – please state in box what area your occupation is in.
